# Short links: Short links that keep count

> Short links with a QR code in your brand color, an expiry date and a view limit. Every link counts clicks and scans, and one link per channel shows where the visits come from.

The QR code on the flyer points to a long address, and nobody knows whether anyone ever scanned it. With a short link you see how often it was clicked and scanned, and the campaign is already in your analytics.

## One link for flyers, emails and trade shows

A short link is a short address on ciro-noise.de that forwards to your destination: the landing page, the sign-up form, the appointment. You get it as a link to copy and as a QR code in your brand color, as PNG or SVG for print. CIRO NOISE counts clicks and scans separately, and the last visit shows date and time.

So that the source reaches your analytics, the redirect adds the UTM parameters to the destination itself. A scan arrives there as “qr”, a click as “shortlink”, and you name the campaign yourself, because the link's name stays internal. You don't have to change anything at the destination.

A link can expire or be used up after a set number of visits, like a voucher that works exactly once. After that the address shows a notice page instead of the destination. You can also turn a link off without deleting it; the printed code then leads nowhere until you turn it back on.

Only the number of visits is counted. CIRO NOISE stores no IP address and no device, and link previews from chat and email don't count. You manage your brand in the brand kit: it also puts your logo, colors and fonts on quotes, invoices and pitch pages.

## Every link shows what it brought in

Clicks and scans per link, the campaign in your analytics tool and an end date you set.

- **See clicks and scans per link**: Every link counts its visits, split into clicks and QR scans, with the time of the last visit. The totals for all links sit at the top.
- **Pass the campaign on automatically**: The redirect adds the UTM parameters to the destination. Your analytics tool sees source, medium and campaign without anyone changing the destination.
- **Compare your channels**: Create one short link per channel, such as your Instagram bio, a LinkedIn post and the newsletter, and give each its own source. You then see in the list and in your analytics tool how many visits each channel brings.
- **Print the QR code in your brand color**: The code comes as PNG or SVG, in the color from your brand kit. Short link and QR code share the same counter.
- **Decide how long a link is valid**: With an expiry date, as a one-time link or with a set number of visits. After that the address shows a notice page instead of the destination.

## Three situations in which a short link keeps count

The voucher, the trade show booth and the question of which channel works.

### A link that works exactly once

Jan sends a customer a voucher for a free workshop. The link works once and expires at the end of the month. Once the customer opens it, it is used up; anyone she forwards the email to lands on a notice page.

- One-time or a set number of visits
- Expiry date per link
- Link previews don't count
- Notice page instead of the destination once used up

### The QR code at the trade show booth: how often was it scanned?

Nina puts up a poster with a QR code for the trade show. After three days she sees 214 visits on the link, 188 of them scans. In her analytics tool the visits arrive with the medium “qr” and the campaign “messe-2026”, separate from the link in the newsletter.

- Clicks and scans counted separately
- Campaign named per link
- QR code as SVG for print
- No changes needed at the destination

### Which channel brings the most?

Nina promotes the fall campaign on Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, in the newsletter and on a poster. She creates one short link per channel, all with the campaign “herbst-2026”, each with its own source. After a week the list shows: the Instagram bio brings the most visits, TikTok the fewest.

- One short link per channel
- Its own source (utm_source) per link
- The same campaign for all channels
- Compare in the list and in your analytics tool

## Short links in detail

Everything a short link can do, in one sentence each.

- **Count clicks and scans**: Visits per link, split into clicks and scans, plus the last visit. The totals for all links at the top.
- **QR code in your brand color**: As PNG or SVG, in the brand color from your brand kit, without a third-party logo.
- **Automatic UTM parameters**: The redirect adds source, medium and campaign itself. Scans arrive with the medium “qr”, clicks with “shortlink”.
- **Source per channel**: You set the source (utm_source) per link. Without one, it carries your organization's handle. To tell channels apart, you therefore create one link per channel.
- **Expiry date and visit limit**: Unlimited, one-time or a set number of visits, plus an expiry date. After that a notice page appears.
- **Privacy without IP addresses**: No IP address, no device, no click log. Only the counters and the last visit are stored.

## Frequently asked questions

### What exactly do I see in the analytics?

For each link, the number of visits split into clicks and QR scans, and the time of the last visit. Above all links you see the totals: short links, active links, visits, clicks and scans. Where visitors come from and what they do on the destination page you see in your analytics tool, because the redirect passes the UTM parameters along.

### Can I use short links for social media?

Yes. Create one short link per channel, for example for your Instagram bio, a LinkedIn post and the newsletter, with the same campaign and a source of their own. In the list you see the visits per link, in your analytics tool the visits per source. A single link for all channels counts everything together, and then you can no longer tell where a visit came from.

### Does CIRO NOISE store who clicked?

No. Only the counters and the time of the last visit are stored, no IP address, no device and no log of individual clicks. Link previews from chat apps and email scanners don't count.

### Do I need to change anything on the destination page?

No. The redirect adds source, medium and campaign as UTM parameters to the destination address. Every analytics tool that reads UTM assigns the visits with them.

### What happens when a link has expired?

The address then shows a notice page instead of the destination. It names neither the destination nor your organization. You can change the expiry date or turn the link back on, and the printed code works again.

### Who can create short links?

Short links belong to the Marketing area and are only available to the roles you choose. A short link forwards to any destination under our address, so not every member gets that permission automatically.

### Where do I manage logo and colors?

In the brand kit. There you store logos, colors with their role, fonts and the brand voice, for your own brand and for customers. Quotes, invoices and pitch pages take the brand from it, and the QR code uses the brand color.
