# Recurring item

> A recurring item is an expense or income that comes up regularly in the same amount, such as rent, licenses or insurance. You set up a rule once, and CIRO NOISE creates the receipt as a draft every month, quarter or year.

Some costs come every month in the same amount: office rent, the license for your accounting software, insurance. Recording these items again each time costs time and is easy to forget.

In CIRO NOISE these rules are called recurring receipts. You'll find them under Finance › Recurring receipts. A rule describes once what comes up regularly: title, business partner, category, cost center, amount with VAT, currency, and whether it is an expense or income.

When the date comes, CIRO NOISE creates a receipt from it. The receipt appears as a draft in your receipt list, and you check and confirm it like any other.

## How recurring items work in CIRO NOISE

You choose an interval, either monthly, quarterly or yearly, plus the day of the month, a start date and optionally an end date. If a month has fewer days than you set, CIRO NOISE uses the last day of the month, so the 31st becomes the 28th or 29th in February.

Once a day, CIRO NOISE checks which rules are due and creates one receipt per rule, with the due date as the document date. Your organization's admins get a notification. With "Run now" you create the next receipt straight away. After the end date no more receipts are created, and the rule switches itself off.

## A real-world example

A tax office with eight employees pays €1,850 rent on the 1st of every month and its professional liability insurance once a year. The office manager sets up two rules: rent monthly on the 1st with the cost center OFFICE, and the insurance yearly on January 15. From now on the rent shows up as a draft in the receipt list every month, and the office manager only attaches the bank statement.

## Draft, not booking

CIRO NOISE doesn't book a recurring item without asking. The receipt it creates is a draft, and only once you confirm it does it go into the DATEV export. If a date falls in a locked period, CIRO NOISE skips it and moves on to the next date.

Recurring invoices to your customers are something else. In CIRO NOISE they are called subscriptions and live under Finance › Subscriptions.
