# Task

> A task is a piece of work someone on your team needs to get done. It sits as a card on a board, carries an ID like CIR-142 and has an assignee, status, priority, due date, labels and comments.

In CIRO NOISE, a task is the smallest unit of project work: a bug to fix, a text to write, a call someone has to make. Every task lives on exactly one board and gets a running number when it is created. Combined with the board's prefix, that becomes an ID like CIR-142 you can say out loud and find again in search.

You'll find your tasks in the Tasks feature. Pick a board and you see the cards in columns such as Open, In progress, In review and Done. Drag a card to the next column and its status changes, so everyone on your team sees where the work stands.

## How tasks work in CIRO NOISE

A task has a title, a description and an assignee. You can add a due date, a priority from Low through Medium and High to Urgent, and as many labels as you need. If you like, you estimate effort in points (1, 2, 3, 5, 8 or 13) or, if the board is set up that way, in person-days, and plan the task into a sprint. A board can also carry up to five custom fields, such as cost center or channel.

Group big initiatives as an epic with stories, tasks or bugs below it, and split those into subtasks. A subtask can't have subtasks of its own, so the overview stays readable. You can also record that one task blocks another or that two tasks are related. If a board has a default assignee, every new task without its own assignee goes to that person automatically.

Tasks don't only come from typing them in. A support request becomes a task in a few clicks, and the link to the request stays visible. An action item from a meeting becomes a task with an owner, and the meeting then shows the task's ID.

## An everyday example

A customer reports through the form that her contact form won't send. Lena in support hands the request over to the Website board, where it becomes WEB-47. Pascal picks it up, sets the priority to High and attaches a screenshot. When he drags WEB-47 to Done, Lena gets a notification in the bell and can reply to the customer without chasing anyone.

## Done, won't do, archived

A task is closed once it is Done or Won't do. Only Done counts as progress; Won't do drops out of the numbers. Closed tasks move to the board's archive after 30 days, and you can reopen them from there.

If you move a task to another board, it gets that board's next free number and therefore a new ID. Subtasks and sprint belong to the old board and are detached in the move.
