A mention pulls a specific person into a topic. You type @ and the name, pick the person from the list, and they hear about it without you sending a separate message. It works in task comments and descriptions and on wiki pages. On a concept board you mention someone by inserting them as a card.
The notification appears in the bell and on the dashboard, which lists the places you were mentioned. An email follows as well, unless the person has switched those emails off in their settings.
How mentions work in CIRO NOISE
A mention only reaches people who are allowed to read the place it's in. If you mention someone in a task who has no access to Tasks, they don't get a notification. That way nothing lands with people who shouldn't see it. CIRO NOISE doesn't notify you when you mention yourself.
If you later fix a typo in a description, only newly mentioned people are notified. Anyone who was already mentioned doesn't get a second notification.
On the board you can filter to show only tasks in which you are mentioned.
An everyday example
Kira from accounting writes in task FIN-12: “@Pascal, can you approve the October travel expenses by Friday?” Pascal doesn't follow that task and would have missed it. He gets a bell notification and an email, opens FIN-12 straight from the message and replies in a comment.
Mention or follow
Following a task keeps you posted on every change. A mention is a one-off, direct request. Use it when you need an answer or a decision from a specific person, and leave following to people who want to stay in the loop.
